Fostering Hope – A foster-share community

Our mission

Fostering Hope is a volunteer-driven, donation-based, 501(c)(3) organization that serves the foster care community. Our mission is to serve youth experiencing foster care and those who open their hearts and homes to care for them by providing free, tangible resources to help them feel safe, valued, and supported.

We provide free resources to foster families, kinship care families, pre- and post-adoptive families, biological families on safety plans with their local child welfare office, and young adults who have recently aged out.

Our vision

Our vision is to cultivate an engaged community where every child experiencing foster care is met with dignity, feels loved, and receives the care and support needed to navigate trauma and thrive.

Our Initiatives

Dignity Duffles

Fostering Hope is providing foster children new duffle bags to use for their belongings when moving from one home to another.

Imagine this… You’re a child. A caseworker knocks on the door to your home. They tell you that you can’t stay there anymore, that it’s no longer safe for you. You’re told that you’re going to stay with some new parents (aka – strangers) for a while. You’re confused and scared. You have no idea how long until you’ll be able to see your mommy and daddy again. Then, the caseworker tells you to pack up the things you want to take with you and hands you a trash bag.

Bags of Hope

Fostering Hope is providing foster children with bags containing the basic necessities needed when entering a new home.

When a child enters foster care it can be a scary and confusing time. Many times they come to their temporary foster homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. We want to offer a small gift to these children and their foster families to ease some of that fear and uncertainty.

“Foster-Share” Closet

Fostering Hope’s Foster-Share Closet will help you always be prepared for a placement!

The Foster-Share Closet was Fostering Hope’s very first initiative. Soon after the Directors of Fostering Hope became foster parents, they realized how crucial the support, donations, and offers for help they had were to their success as foster parents. They decided to relieve the burden of frantically searching for the needed basics from other foster families as well.

Fostering Phones

We are dedicated to providing free phones and cellular service to teens and young adults in foster care.

Cell phones are not a luxury; they are a lifeline. They enable us to apply for jobs, communicate with peers, maintain connections, check grades, research colleges, and more. Without a phone, youth cannot access the essential services they need to thrive. A lack of internet and digital communication access significantly hinders a teen’s transition to independence and adulthood.

Currently this initiative is being offered exclusively by Berks, Chester, Delaware, Lower Bucks, Montgomery, and Philly-NE Chapters. If you are a teenager or young adult in foster care, or if you care for one, please contact your local participating chapter of Fostering Hope.

This hallmark initiative is made possible by the generous support of the Justamere Foundation. However, we still need additional funding to continue providing phones to those who need them most.
